Thought for the Day: re-examine foods with "artificial colors"

Filed under:

When researching the affect of artificial food colors and colorings in the last few years, it was amazing to me that these components are used in normal, everyday foods that many of us eat. Although I try to stay far (far) away form ingredient panels that list things like "Blue Lake #5" and so forth, reading the health affects of some of these products made me run away even farther.

With artificial colors linked to ADHD in kids and even to pre-cancerous growths in some, it's hard to not find any processed food item these days without some kind of artificial color. I guess food has to look all bright and shiny as well as have chemically-masked tastes to pass the taste test of many consumers. Food was not like this 100 years ago and the human race did just fine, so why now?

Packaging and marketing, plain and simple. But, if you're one that cares about the quality of products you put into your body, I'd steer clear of almost all (if not all) artificial colors. How about artificial flavors? That's another post.
