A combination of modest exercise, no-smoking, moderate alcohol intake, and consuming five daily servings of fruits and vegetables added an estimated 14 years to the lives of some British adults, a recent study in PLoS Medicine found. Five researchers at Cambridge University (United Kingdom) reported significant, comparative reductions in mortality among adult participants in a study if they followed four routinely recommended health guidelines. The mortality reduction for adults who followed these life style changes was four times greater than for adults who did not adopt any of them, which was equivalent to adding about 14 years of life...

Emergency room patients, who are white, receive more pain relievers than other Americans, finds a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Researchers primarily based at the University of California-San Francisco found all emergency room patients received significantly more pain relievers nationwide during a 13 year period. Of the approximately 375,000 emergency department visits assessed in the study, about 42 percent were pain-related...
